SVEALAND

Borlänge MJK

The Borlänge club welcomed us on a Saturday in May 2015 and we were given a tour and demo of the layout.

Järfälla MJK (JMJK)

For more than 50 years, a group of dedicated model railroaders built and refined this remarkable American-themed layout beneath a school in Järfälla, Sweden. Featured in magazines and admired by visitors from around the world, the railroad grew into one of the country's most impressive model railway projects.

Then came an unexpected message from the municipality: the bomb shelter housing the layout would be reclaimed. Unable to relocate the railroad, the club faced an impossible decision. After half a century of work, the layout was dismantled. This video was recorded 2024 and preserves the railroad as it looked during its final days and tells the story behind a layout that can never be rebuilt
