| - MRR TUTORIALS - 3D-PRINTING |
3D printing has fundamentally transformed the model railroad hobby in just a few years. In the past, hobbyists were limited to a small selection of plastic details from only a few manufacturers, often at high prices and with long delivery times. Today, you can instead print exactly the details you need at home within a few hours — with better detailing and at a fraction of the cost. With a modern resin printer, it is possible to create buildings, freight loads, station details, vehicles, industrial components and scenery objects with a level of detail previously found only in very exclusive models.
At the same time, model building becomes far more flexible and enjoyable. You no longer need to adapt your railroad to whatever happens to be available in stores — instead, you can create exactly the environment and era you want. For many model railroaders, the economic aspect is also important. The same detail that costs €15–30 in a hobby shop can often be printed at home for just a few cents worth of resin. This makes it possible to create larger, richer and more realistic scenes without the budget getting out of control.
3D printing is therefore not only the future of model railroading — it is already today the smartest way to build more realistically, more affordably and with far greater creative freedom.
Starting in 2023, we started designing printable 3D models for the average home user. You find all available freight cars in our library. The 3D-models are available in our shop on a platform called CG Trader. You pay a low one-time fee and can then print as many freigth cars as you like for your Model Railroad.
